Introduction This web page proudly presents our robot and guides you through the design process in order to give an insight in the accomplished work. This design project is part of the sophomore curriculum of the students at the Department of Engineering Technology of the Free University of Brussels (VUB). Its aim was to give students the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice. A robot contains both mechanical parts and electronic parts. Such a combination is ideal to give students an idea of what they want to choose as a specialization in their third year. All teams were issued with the same components which made it fair for everyone. The next step was to let lose our imagination.

Concept

The robot is a simple driving robot with two rods that can be pushed down or up.  It  leans against the stairs with two conductors which provide the robot with a forward  motion as it pushes itself upwards. The major drawback of this concept is that a lot  of grip is needed between the rods and the floor. Those problems were tackled with  the use of mixing silicone which provides most grip. More information about this can  be found in the section below, in the tabs of wheels and support surfaces. The robot  is also able to move down the stairs using simple little wheels, attached to the rods.
